The Monitoring Group of the Anti-doping Convention visited the Hungarian University of Sports Science on 10 October. The organisation praised the analytical laboratory of the Sports Nutrition Science Centre.
An evaluation visit of the Monitoring Group of the Anti-doping Convention took place in Hungary between 10-12 October, 2023. The Sports Nutrition Science Centre (SNSC) of the university, in particular the analytical laboratory accredited according to the MSZ EN/ISO/IEC 17025:2018 standard, is actively involved in the fight against doping.
When the SNSC was inaugurated in October 2017, its main was to protect athletes from accidental doping caused by dietary supplements contaminated with parenteral doping substances, while the dietetic cabinet staff provide nutritional advice to help athletes prepare, recover and achieve their goals.
"Our centre was set up by the State Secretariat for Sport to help our athletes avoid innocent doping. Now the WADA monitoring team has arrived in Hungary and Dr Ákos Reinhardt asked if we could contribute to the presentation of our centre in cooperation with the State Secretariat. We said yes without hesitation, so we showed the five-man monitoring team that came to Hungary to monitor anti-doping activities in Hungary," said Dr Margita Szilágyi-Utczás, Director and Head of Laboratory of the Centre for Sports Nutrition and Science.
Since the establishment of the centre, the analytical laboratory has dynamically followed the changes in the WADA Prohibited List, and with its continuously expanding range of services has become unique not only in Hungary, but also in Central and Eastern Europe. It works in close cooperation with the National Anti-Doping Organisation (HUNADO) and the National Food Chain Safety Office. The members of the visiting monitoring team were very interested to be shown around the laboratory and to take part in a detailed technical presentation. Several of them indicated that they would like to cooperate in the future.
"It is important to add that in addition to the analytical laboratory, our centre also has a dietetic cabinet, where our athletes can receive nutritional advice, and the two units work closely together to contribute to the best possible performance of our athletes," added Margita Szilágyi-Utczás.
The team of the centre is headed by Dr Margita Szilágyi-Utczás, the director of the centre. Colleagues of the laboratory include Dr Zoltán Pálinkás, Réka Király, Hajnal Bartha, Erzsébet Schreiberné Molnár and Szilvia Szemők, while the dietetic cabinet is supervised by Kinga Shenker-Horváth, Flóra Szakszon and Virág Jenes-Kis.
